I was first diagnosed with Stage III Inflammatory Breast Carcinoma in November 2010; my treatment included six months of chemotherapy, a lumpectomy, and radiation. Two years later I was diagnosed with an unrelated early-stage cancer in the other breast, and had a double mastectomy. Two years after that, the first cancer metastasized to my sacrum and hip; its next stop was my brain. In recent months, it has progressed aggressively through my bones and liver. I'm now almost entirely confined to a wheelchair.
The Cancer Support Community has been a tremendous help to me. Services, for cancer patients and survivors, caregivers and the bereaved, include support groups and classes in everything from art to yoga to mindfulness. All of it is provided absolutely free of charge.
This May 4 at Creve Coeur Park will be my fourth Steps for Hope event; this year, I'll be riding in a wheelchair, not walking. But I want to do what I can to help this great organization. I hope you'll join me, in person or through your financial assistance. The proceeds stay in the St. Louis area, and fund the Cancer Support Community.
STEPS FOR HOPE brings together family, friends, and coworkers to help make a difference in the lives of people facing cancer in our community. Walkers choose a 1 or 3.7 mile route, starting at 10am on Saturday, May 4th in beautiful Creve Coeur Park.
Proceeds from the event stay in the St. Louis area and fund Cancer Support Community's programs, all of which are available at no charge to individuals affected by cancer. When you walk in STEPS FOR HOPE you help share knowledge, community, and hope with individuals and families affected by cancer.
